Surviving the IT Job Hunt: A Teen's Perspective
Indian teens are increasingly depressed and feeling restlessness about this ongoing bear market in IT industry. I daily meet 1-2 few people who’re stressed about the jobs. I see people more capable and skillfull than me are striving hard to make it in this industry, and also I have some of my collegues, who don’t even know how to code “hello world” are into this industry. Well I do not envy those people, they got into industry by connections, and not skills.
I constantly keep myself encountering such thoughts because even I am working as an intern at a startup which is not secure for long term. I apply jobs on weekends, and see a huge crowd even on a single vacancy at a company. This indicates what is the current condition for freshers in India.
Approximately, around 2-3 years ago, IT was booming and hired a ton of people in bulk. The candidates were’nt even need to do / showskill their “best” work or a project. And just after a couple of years later, now, with those skills, you won’t even get an internship. The curve this industry has taken is literally devastating. Well, I am not here to talk about why this phase has occured or when this will end. I truly believe that this is a bear-run, this is the lowest point of this industry, for the people who will stick to this phase, put their head down and work hard, will be rewarded on the time of bull-run. So I urge all the tech folks out there to not to leave this industry at its worst, this is the time you upskill and work without caring about results, you’ll be rewarded, mark my words.
